Why do people need a Nutritionist?

We have already agreed that good health is your best asset in life. But how do maintain good health? The answer is easy, if you wanted to look after your car, you would take it to a mechanic. The same is true of your health and well-being. Preventative health is the job of a qualified Nutritionist. Your Certified Practicing Nutritionist works with you to develop strategies to ensure you get the proper nutrients and achieve your health goals.

The internet is full of misinformation and fad diets. Health is not “one size fits all.” A Nutritionist is a professional health advisor, trained to support you.

Just a little bit of guidance may be all you need to start your journey to lasting health.

Everything You Need To Know About Calories, Protein, Carbs & Fat

What are macros? What are your individual macro needs?

How To Determine Your Optimal
Calorie Intake

Do you know what your optimum personal calorie intake is? It’s a fairly simple formula but it differs for each individual depending on their age, height, whether they are male or female, and their individual activity level.

Can a Meal Plan help you Build Muscle?

Building muscle is a result of physical exercise and having a diet that supports muscle growth. If your calories or protein intake is inadequate for the level of exercise you undertake muscle catabolism can occur. This is the process of your body breaking down muscle tissue to provide the necessary energy to support normal body functions. So yes, a meal plan can help you achieve your desired muscle mass.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are often asked general nutritional questions, below are some of the more common questions.

Carbs or carbohydrates have really taken a beating, in the world of weight loss. But carbohydrates include such a wide range of foods! Are they all bad? The answer is no. Carbohydrates are essential. When you avoid whole food groups it’s not possible to get all the fibre, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals you need to stay healthy. You also risk negatively affecting your gut flora which requires a diverse range of plant-based food for optimum microbial activity.

Fat has also had a lifetime of bad press. Do we need fat in our diet or should it be avoided? What fat is best for you? It can be very confusing but you do need fat to be healthy. Our meal plans will be designed with the optimum amounts of essential fatty acids.

Each person requires a different amount of protein. Your nutritionist will calculate this amount for you in your initial consultation. Your meal plan will be designed to supply the optimal protein for your body, your activity level, and your goals. Too much protein isn’t bad for your body, but it also doesn’t provide any additional benefit.

Eggs are an amazing food. This little gift from nature is packed with protein, iron, vitamins, and minerals, so much goodness in a convenient package. Eggs are an affordable source of protein. They are naturally high in cholesterol, but after 25 years of intense research, we can safely say the cholesterol in eggs doesn’t raise cholesterol levels

Meat has come under scrutiny recently. It is important to differentiate between processed meats such as salami, bacon, hotdogs, sausages, or ham and unprocessed meat such as steak. There is a positive correlation between processed meat consumption and an increased risk of certain types of cancer.

It should also be noted that consuming large amounts of red meat isn’t recommended for a healthy diet as it can lead to less intake of vegetables and complex carbohydrates. It’s important to view a diet from a holistic point of view. Consuming a balanced diet with minimally processed food is the best approach to nutrition.
